About
Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) affect millions of Americans, with women facing twice the risk for AD as men and experiencing faster progression, greater tau pathology, and poorer treatment responses, while men have 1.5 times the risk for Parkinson's disease (PD).
The Houston Alzheimer's Disease Research Collaborative (HADRC) investigates the mechanisms underlying sex-specific differences, including genetics, neuroinflammation, vascular pathology, co-pathologies, and responses to treatments in order to understand differences in risk and personalize AD treatment for women and men.
By leveraging Houston's robust research infrastructure and hundreds of AD investigators, the HADRC supports innovative research, provides high-quality data and biospecimens to national repositories, and delivers targeted educational programs, all with the goal of improving AD care and outcomes for both men and women.
