Comprehensive Neuropathologic Evaluation and Digital Pathology

January 29, 2026

What this project does
Performs standardized, in-depth neuropathologic assessments for all autopsied cases and digitizes pathology data for sharing and analysis.

Why it matters clinically
Systematic evaluation allows accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and co-pathologies that strongly influence symptoms and progression.

Key activities
-Evaluate and score: Alzheimer’s disease neuropathologic change, vascular brain injury, α-synuclein pathology, TDP-43 pathology, other co-morbid neurodegenerative conditions
-Generate written and photographic documentation of findings
-Digitally scan all slides to enable sharing and consultation
-Integrate complete pathology datasets into NeuroToMe
-Submit standardized pathology data to NACC

What will be delivered
-Harmonized neuropathology datasets
-Digitized pathology resources available for research and consultation

Who this helps
-Clinicians correlating symptoms with biology
-Investigators validating imaging and biomarker findings
-National ADRC collaborators
